The Kyrenia Gate is the arched northern entry into the city of Nicosia, through the city walls. It was built by the Venetians in 1567. The gate used to be called 'Porta Del Proveditore' named after the Venetian engineer Proveditore Francesco. Inscriptions from Venetian and Ottoman times can be seen on the walls of the gate.
